I hope everyone spent a happy and safe holiday season despite the EI. Things seem to be happening quickly now with the ‘hoped’ eradication of this blight. As this goes to print it has been reported by Ron Glanville, CVO - DPI&F, that the zoning changes will change to the following for QLD: 1st of February - green goes to white, 20th of February - amber goes to white and mid March - red goes to green. The NSW zones are updated on the DPI website. We can only hope that we will get some normality back into our lives now.
Most breed National Shows have now set new dates so it is best to check with them so you can prepare. The Rockhampton Quarter Sale, set for March, has now been moved to the 28th - 29th April to be accompanied by the Rocky Rush Campdraft. The fate of Horse Australia, which is to run 1st - 4th of May, will be in the hands of a meeting to be held later this week. The Paradise Lagoon Campdraft, which was to be run with Horse Australia, will now run on the 18 - 20th July.
Dave Christensen of Australian Horseman fame has hung up his magazine gear and sold the publication to Denise Ellis of Goondiwindi. Look out fish – here he comes! I can hear Pearl yahooing now! We’ll look for the next episode of Dave, as he changes direction to become the next great ‘Cattle Baron’ of Australia.
The Queensland Horse Council has been very active in this EI fiasco and will have a meeting this weekend at the Gatton Ag College. The QHC now has the combined voice of its 22,400 members plus the Pony Clubs, which brings it up to 65,000. A full day has been planned with speakers and workshops from all walks of the industry. The AHIC has also been very productive. With these two councils in charge we will all have a better shot at things should there be another disease outbreak again.
The AQHA now has some new Directors in place and I hope this will enable members to have their problems attended to. I have spoken to the new President, Harry van Dyk, and found him to have members as his priority. He was very approachable and I wish him and the new Directors all the best in their new positions.
